Not every problem of the stomach or bowel needs an operation. At the first visit he goes through your symptoms and reports, explains what is going on in plain words, and tells you whether surgery is needed now, later, or not at all.
When surgery is needed, you will know before the day what the operation involves, how long you will stay, and what recovery will look like.
